Prioritize Residents’ Basic Needs in the FY 2025-2026 City Budget

Dear Mayor Todd Gloria and Councilmember Kent Lee,

We believe San Diego is a great place to live and raise a family. Mira Mesa is our home, and like all neighborhoods, we expect our elected officials to prioritize essential services. As you finalize the Fiscal Year 2025-2026 City Budget, we urge you to protect critical services that ensure our community’s safety, accessibility, and quality of life—without cuts or reductions.

Our Priorities for Mira Mesa:

1. Public Safety – Maintain strong police services and prevent homeless encampments in residential areas.
2. Road Repairs – No more patchwork fixes! Address Mira Mesa’s long term pothole Issues (Mira Mesa Blvd, Gold
Coast, Capricorn, et al)
3. Library & Recreation Services – Maintain current hours for libraries and parks to support families and programs.
4. Safer Pedestrian Crossings – Extend crosswalk signal times on Mira Mesa Blvd. Implement “No Right Turn on Red” at key intersections: Mira Mesa Blvd, Camino Ruiz, Black Mountain Rd & Westview Parkway.
5. No New Trash Collection Fees – No new Taxes on our Property Tax Bills
6. Brush Clearing – Ensure regular canyon maintenance near homes to reduce fire hazards.
7. Mira Mesa Community Park Expansion – Prioritize building the 15,000 sq. ft. recreation center approved in the 2015 General Development Plan.

Fiscal Responsibility Matters:
On February 20, 2025, Citizens’ Budget Review, the Independent Budget Analyst highlighted:

– A $200M+ structural deficit in FY 2025.
– Ongoing costs outpacing revenues, relying on unsustainable one-time fixes.
– Decades of deferred infrastructure maintenance, worsening the city’s financial health.

We urge you to restore fiscal stability while safeguarding the services that keep San Diego “America’s Finest City.”

Let’s stand together for Mira Mesa’s future!

Sincerely,
